American Meteorological Society

A not-for profit organization whose membership runs the gamut from professional meteorologists to weather enthusiasts. They promote the education and professional advancement of the atmospheric, hydrological, and oceanographic sciences.

Cable in the Classroom

A $420 million public service effort supported by 33 national cable networks and over 8,500 local cable companies. These networks and local cable companies act as a partner in learning with teachers and parents by providing a free cable connection and over 540 hours per month of commercial-free educational programming to schools across the country.

Hurricane Hunters

An active unit of the Air Force Reserves, the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters, invites you to join them as they fly airplanes right into the eye of the hurricane. Based at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, this unit has been leading the way on tropical cyclone research for over 50 years.

NASA - Lightning Detection from Space

NASA investigates the phenomena of lightning from aircraft and the Space Shuttle. This "Lightning Primer" explores the characteristics, the history, and the on-going research about nature's most capricious and deadly member.

National Hurricane Center

Part of the Tropical Prediction Center, they issue watches, warnings, and forecasts on tropical events in both the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific. Included on their site are the latest forecasts, storm names, historical storm data, and much more.

A branch of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency, under the U.S. Department of Commerce, they support the entire forecast process, from the collection of observations in the field through the analysis of the data and numerical models, to the distribution of meteorological and hydrological data.
